Changes to Commuter Shuttle Bus Program – April 2016

The SFMTA conducted an 18-month pilot (August 2014-January 2016) to test sharing designated Muni zones with eligible commuter shuttles that pay a fee and comply with permit terms. Informed by the pilot, the current program will run from April 2016-March 31, 2017 and will lead to a longer term program.

PROGRAM FAQ

The 2016-2017 program involves the following characteristics:

  • A network of up to 125 shared Muni and shuttle, or shuttle only, stop locations
  • Shuttle service providers apply for a permit to use network, and pay a fee for permit
    • Permit fees will recover SFMTA’s costs for program
  • Permittees are responsible for ensuring that their operators comply with agreed-upon operating guidelines
  • Shuttles must display permit placards on four sides of vehicle and display a “how is my driving?” sticker
  • The program is enforced by SFMTA Parking Control Officers and Muni Inspectors
  • Permittees are required to share data on operations with the SFMTA, following specifications established by the SFMTA
  • Permittees must establish a Service Disruption Prevention Plan
