Nike Women’s Half Marathon Oct. 18, 2015

The 12th Annual Nike Women’s Half Marathon will be happening October 18, 2015.Once again, the event will be benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.  San Francisco has hosted the “Nike Women’s Marathon” since 2004. In those 11 years the event has raised over $152 million dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We are mindful of the impact of road closures to the neighborhoods surrounding Golden Gate Park and will target to have them cleared by 11:00am on race day Sunday October 18, 2015.  We are also aware of the impact on the community in the Marina and target to have that portion of the running route cleared no later than 11:00am. In addition we will work with the Yacht Clubs and boat owners to ensure access to their facilities on race day.

Enhancements for this year’s event:

  • Course adjustment in the Richmond District to increase cross traffic flow and eliminate impact on essential city services.
  • Road closure changes in the Union Square Race Start area to reduce impact on hotels and increase participant access to race services.
  • Parking restrictions on the course in the Richmond District on Fulton, Balboa, Geary and California.

We are committed to reducing and mitigating the impact this event will have in the community.  Our goal is to be in constant contact and communication to provide you with all the details and answers to questions or concerns that you may have.

Please see below for additional information regarding the event

Event Summary

  • October 18, 2015
  • Event start time 6:30 am
  • Event end time 1:30 pm
  • Maximum number of athletes – 25,000

Road Closures & Times

  • Attached is the proposed map
  • The course route includes multiple valves at predetermined locations, that will allow vehicular traffic and public transportation resources to continue flowing at a metered cadence across the race route
  • The roads in the Richmond District would be closed to local access only, from approximately 6:00 am to 10:45am am at the latest but neighbors would still be able to access their vehicles by working with the San Francisco police department to be escorted out of any closed sections.
  • There will be parking restrictions on the course in the Richmond District on Fulton, Balboa, Geary and California.

  • Recommendations will be made regarding spectators viewing areas in Golden Gate Park.
  • A spectator shuttle service may be available to transport people to and from predetermined course locations.

Parking and Transportation

  • There will be an event specific shuttle service to transport athletes and spectators from the finish area back to Union Square.
  • We strongly encourage athletes to take public transportation or race provided shuttles to the start location.
  • We will be strongly communicating that parking will notbe available at the finish and recommending public transportation for those who do not utilize the event shuttle service.

We welcome your feedback on this proposal.  Please let us know if there is anything else that can be done to mitigate the impact on the community.

Thank you,

Eliote Durham
